In the early years Dutch painter Piet Mondriaan (1872 - 1944) started painting flowers and landscapes. During his live the paintings developed into more abstract work. Mondriaan turned his landscapes into colored rectangles and black lines. His last painting
Victory Boogie Woogie visualises the rhythm of the boogie woogie. The painting was never finished; Mondriaan died early in 1944, in New York. The painting has been acquired in 1988 by the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag for 37€ million. The museum shows the whole development of Mondriaan, from the
Mill in Sunlight (1908) to the abstract Victory Boogie Woogie painting (1944), the most expensive painting that was never finished.
