Lunteren

Secret spot hidden in the woods

Lunteren - Where is the center of the Netherlands? A lime tree with a bench and a few large stones mark the geographic center of the Netherlands. The place in the middle of the Netherlands is on the Koepol or Lindeboomsberg, a hill in the Luntersche Buurtbosch in the woods near Lunteren on the Veluwe.

Ancient calendar

Three large boulders on the edge of the hill act as an ancient calendar. The stones are in a triangle. The two largest stones line up with the sunrise on the longest day of the year. The first and third stones are aligned with the sunrise on the shortest day.

The geographic center of the Netherlands lies in the forest near Lunteren. The site is located 51 meters above sea level, on top of a hill in the forest.

It is suspected that justice was administered under the lime tree in earlier times.
