Amstelveen

I don't paint, I hit

Amstelveen - I don't paint, I hit is a quote from Karel Appel, one of the founders of the CoBrA art movement. Famous artists such as Corneille, Constant and Karel Appel were part of this movement which arose in 1948 in a cafe in Paris.

Copenhague, Bruxelles and Amsterdam

The name CoBrA is a combination of the first letters of Copenhague, Bruxelles en Amsterdam. The founders came from one of these 3 capitals.

The imaginative shapes and bright colors are typical for the CoBrA style of art.

The permanent collection of the CoBrA Museum contains mainly works of the Dutch CoBrA art movement.
