Tiengemeten

Walking on an uninhabited island in the Haringvliet

Tiengemeten - Tiengemeten island, in the Rotterdam area, used to be about five hectares in size. But due to siltation and reclamation - the last reclamation was in 1860 - this sandbank in the Haringvliet grew into a real island.

For hikers and bird watchers, the Tiengemeten island in the Haringvliet is a beautiful freshwater tidal area with water, grassland, mud flats, swamp and forest. Tiengemeten is an absolute must for people who like peace and quietness and want to stroll in nature.
