The town of Warns is located in southwest Friesland, a few kilometers from the IJsselmeer and Stavoren. Warns is best known for the Battle at Warns in 1345. The Frisians defeated the Dutch here. The monument commemorating the battle reads leaver dea as slaef: rather death than slave. The road from the monument is still known as de ferkearde wei (the wrong way) because the Dutch knights met their doom here. However, as a tourist you are at the right place here. The area is beautiful!
