Terschelling

The most beautiful sandy beaches in the Netherlands

Terschelling - Holiday on Terschelling? The Dutch Wadden Islands have 20% more hours of sunshine than the rest of the Netherlands. Terschelling offers plenty of variety. You have great beaches and a beautiful dune area along the North Sea. On the other side of the island you have the green lands, the dike, salt marshes and the Wadden Sea. For fun, follow the cycle path outside the dykes. At low tide you have a beautiful view for miles. The Noordvaarder nature reserve is located in the west of Terschelling. At the other end there is another beautiful area: 'Dark Sky Park' de Boschplaat. It is still really dark here and you can watch plenty of stars!

Hottest European beaches

The most beautiful places at Terschelling

Wadlopen In early 2010, the British newspaper the Sunday Times placed the 32 km long North Sea beach of Terscheling in its Top 20 of Hottest European beaches . The beautiful fine sand and dunes were particularly praised. "Ideal for cyclists, nudists, but also for party freaks" according to the newspaper. Terschelling is also a wonderful destination for 'ordinary' people.

Except for the beach at West-Terschelling, the beautiful beach of Terschelling is located along the entire North Sea coast. Do not underestimate the current. There is a supervised beach at Paal 8 near West aan Zee and at the Midsland aan Zee beach entrance. There is a family beach at Formerum and Midsland and you can kite, kayak and wave surf in the right weather. Nude recreation is allowed on the beach between posts 8 and 12.

Dark Sky Park 'De Boschplaat'

The Boschplaat on the east side of Terschelling was once a separate island. It was attached to Terschelling in the early 1900s by the construction of a drift dike. Over time, a beautiful nature area has been created with dunes, salt marshes, salt marshes and mudflats. In the spring and early summer, the area has limited access to protect the birds in the area. Nowadays the Boschplaat is also a 'Dark Sky Park'. This means that visitors are welcome at night to experience the darkness and see the starry sky.
