Ruins of Brederode Castle

Lapsed since 1573

Once upon a time, in the year 1282, the Lords of Brederode built a castle. Although the castle is still largely intact, it is a ruin. The original shape is still easily recognized.

besieged and rebuilt

The castle is in the course of time several times besieged and rebuilt. The last siege dating from 1573 when the Spaniards set fire to the castle. Since then the castle is a ruin.

Additional information: Traveling by train? Wander from train station "Santpoort-Zuid" or "Santpoort-Noord" and follow the "Brederode route".

It takes about 10 to 15 minutes walking from Santpoort-Zuid to the Brederode Castle.
